Go to Gertrude and talk to her to start the quest. (She can be found west of Varrock) She'll tell you about two of her friends who know a lot about Rat Catching, you'll have to meet them in the Varrock sewer.

Go to Varrock and go down into the sewer, near the Varrock museum (north of east bank). Talk to Grimesquit and Phingspet, you'll have to catch 8 rats to prove yourself. Interact with your cat and chase-vermin.

Tip: Stroke, pick up and feed when your cat doesn't catch anything. Take a look in the quest look how many rats you've catched so far.

Once you've caught 8 rats go back to Grimesquit and Phingspet. Talk to them, you'll get a rate pole and they'll tell you to talk to Jimmy Dazzler in Ardougne about the Rat Pits.

Go to Ardougne and go to the house with the mini game star near the wall of west Ardougne and talk to Jimmy Dazzler. You'll have to help him before he will help you. You'll have to catch some rats in a rich merchants house without being seen. He'll cast a spell on you, so if you will be discovered the discoverer forgets it and you'll be teleported away.

The Manor

Note: Take some fish for your cat with you.

Follow the directions to get to the manor.

Now you'll have to get in the mansion without being seen, when you're seen you'll be teleported a bit back. The directions below are should be followed when it's safe, when guards cannot see you and when you're not too close to the back of them.

1. Go to the west, when the guard is moving to the north.
2. Go north, stand at the west side of the branch.
3. Wait until the guards are both away and go to the north. Now you should be at the north west corner.
4. Now look at the trellis east. There is just one guard wait until he's away and go to the trellis and go up.

5. Now you could get spotted immediately. But then you'll end up just down at the trellis. When you don't get spoteed stand at the rim of the house and wait for the right moment.

6. Move to the west and go into that room, here you'll have to catch the first rat.

7. Now you'll have to reach the other side of the house to the southeast room. Best way to do this is first go to the northeast room and wait until east guard is at the terrace, until you move to the southeast room.
8. In this room you'll have to catch two rats.

9. Now you should go down stairs, there is another rat catch it.
10. Go to the room to the north there are also some more rats which you'll have to catch.

Now you should have all the rats. Teleport out of the manor or walk out of it. Return to Jimmy Dazzler and talk to him. You're now allowed to go into the Ardougne rat pits, you'll get a manual and he'll tell you to meet with Hooknosed Jack in Varrock if you want to learn more about grown and overgrown cats.

Hooknosed Jack

Go to Varrock and to the southeast corner and talk to Hooknosed Jack at the minigame sign. He'll ask you to help him out before he'll help you further. He'll ask for a kwuarm, red spider eggs and a empty vial. If you already have the ingredients on you, then he'll give you the rat poison immediatly. You'll also need 4 cheese as bait. Use the poison with the 4 cheese.

Now it's time to do his task, go to the abandoned house to the south and go upstairs. Use the poisoned cheese with the rat holes.

Return to Hooknosed Jack, he'll tell you his cat got poisoned. You'll have to go to the apothecary, he'll ask for a ground unicorn horn, bucket of milk and a marrentill. If you already have the ingredients with you, then he'll make you a anti-poison.

Quickly return to Hooknosed Jack and give him the cat antipoison. He'll tell you that your work hasn't quite finished, there is still one rat left to kill.

You need to take fish (cat food) with you, because this time your cat has to fight. Go back to the house to the south and go upstairs.

Tip: If you say 'Be careful in there cat!', then you cat will flee if it gets low health. If you say 'Go get that nasty rat!', he'll not flee and possibly die.

Use your cat at the hole in the wall, it will start fighting the king rat. Make sure you heal your cat when it has low health. Once you killed the rat return to Hooknosed Jack and talk to him. He'll tell you that if you want advice on overgrown cats, you'll have to go to Smokin' Joe in Keldagrim.

Smokin' Joe

Go to Keldagrim, you can enter it from the east of Rellekka (free) or use the mining carts from either dwarven mines or white wolf mountain (100 gp).

Talk to Smokin' Joe in on the east side of Keldagrim east of the mining shop, offer him your help. You'll have to make smouldering pot, use the weed with the pot, then use your tinderbox with the pot of weeds to make it.

Drop your cat, then use the smouldering pot with the rat hole behind Smokin' Joe. Try it again, this time your cat will help you out. You'll see a short cutscene.

Talk to Smokin' Joe, you now have access to the Keldagrim rat pits. He'll tell you to go to Port Sarim and talk to the Face for the rat pits there.

The Face

Go to the Face in Port Sarim he's at the mini game icon. He'll tell you to talk to Felkrash in the Port Sarim rat pits.

Go downstairs and talk to Felkrash. You'll have to kill all rats in Port Sarim in one sweep. Go back upstairs and talk to the Face, you'll have to visit the snake charmer in Pollnivneach.

Go to Shanty Pass (south of Al Kharid) and buy a waterskin and a pass. Take a carpet ride to Pollnivneach or take a walk. Go to the snake charmer, south of the pub. Talk to the snake charmer, he'll ignore you. Use some money on the money pot. Then the snake charmer will talk to you, ask him about animal charming. He'll ask for 1 more coin then you have on you. Say him to forget it and then walk away slowly. Then stop and he'll accept 100 coins (or 50 if you have Ring of Charos(a)).

Go back to port sarim and read the music scroll. Play the notes on the snake charm, 1 note per page and don't forget the high octave. If you did it right you'll see a cutscene.
