1. Go to the Varrock Palace and speak with King Roald. He’s worried because his communications with the Temple has stopped. Accept to see what’s going on for him.
2. Go out of the Eastern Gate of Varrock and go Northeast until you find a gate on the fence. Open it and go along the path to a Temple.
3. Right click and knock on the door. After a bit of conversation, asking to come in, the Monk of Zamorak inside will ask you to kill the dog (Temple Guardian). Accept.
4. Go to the dungeon entrance, which are a few paces North of the temple. Kill the Temple Guardian inside and then leave and knock on the temple’s door again.
5. After a bit of laughing and surprise from the monks inside, you should go back and talk to King Roald about their odd behavior. He’ll be a bit angry with you, and tell you to go back and fix the problem (the Temple Guardian was defending the palace from attack!).
6. Go back and enter the temple. Kill Level 30 Monks of Zamorak until you get a golden ket. Go up to the Third Floor and speak with Drezel, a captured monk in the prison cell. He’ll speak with you about the river, and inform you of its power, that evil was unable to pass it.
7. He wants you to make the river protect them again, because the Monks of Zamorak have polluted it. One problem is freeing Drezel; if he leaves, the Vampire in the coffin will attack.
8. Enter the Dungeon again, and go past the gates and search the monuments. One will have an iron key instead of a golden one (the other monuments have golden items you cannot take). Replace the iron key with your golden one.
9. Find Drezel again, and try to open the gate. He’ll warn you of the dangerous Vampire that will kill him, and the only way they know how to stop him is to use the Holy Water from the river. Go back into the Dungeon and there’s a well at the center of the monuments. Use your bucket with the well and go back to the cell. Use the water with the vampire, only to find it’s not blessed. Ask Drezel to bless it.
10. When he does, use it on the vampire, destroying him. Drezel will be down at the monuments. Go back to the bank and get as many unnoted rune essence (yes, unnoted!) as you can. Go back into the dungeon, past the monuments, through the gate, and talk to Drezel. Suggest that Rune Essence will soak up the evil power that the Monks of Zamorak polluted the river with. He thinks it’s a good idea, and asks you to get some. Talk to him again, give him your Rune Essence, and then go back to the bank. Get some more, and then give them to Drezel again until 50 Rune Essence has been given to Drezel.
11. Speak to Drezel again, and the quest is complete!
