Runescape Other GuideBank guide |
When you place your items in a bank, you will not lose them when you die. In addition to this, when you deposit your items, you may take them again from any bank in the RuneScape world (see below), not just the one that you deposited them in.

The Banking Tutor
You may want to visit the Banking Tutor if you are new to banking. She can be found on the top floor of Lumbridge Castle; here.

You can speak to her to gain some basic information on how banks work.
Luckily, banks are now located in almost every major city in RuneScape, and many other locations as well.
They are represented on the map as this icon;

And typically look like this;

Popular Bank Locations
Here is a list of the more popular banks in RuneScape; although many more exist.

Catherby- This is a useful bank to both fishers and cooks, due to the nearby range and fishing spots.
Seers Village- This bank is useful for banking logs from the various nearby trees.
Using Banks
Banks are also extremely easy to use. To begin, you can talk to a banker which will present you with the following options.

I'd like to access my bank account please- This will allow you to access your bank.
I'd like to check my pin settings- This allows you to set, cancel or change your PIN number (see below)
What is this place?- This will give you some basic information about banks.
I'd like to see my Grand Exchange collection box- This allows you to see your collection box (see below)
Alternatively, you can right click the bank booth, and be presented with these options.

Use- This lets you talk to the banker, like above.
Use-quickly- This takes you straight to your bank account- useful for if your in a hurry.
Collect- Takes you straight to your collection box- also useful for if your in a hurry.
Your Bank
If you access your bank, you will be presented with a screen such as this.

Non members have spaces for 68 different items, whilst members may have many hundreds.
You can check how much space you have left by looking here;

If you have several of the same item, then a number will appear next to it, stating how many of the item there are. It will take up only 1 space.
Depositing Items
To place an item into your bank, it must be in your inventory and you must be viewing your bank. You can then either click on it to deposit 1, or right click and select another amount or even enter your own (deposit-x) or all of that item that you have in your inventory.

Withdrawing Items
Taking items from your bank is very similar. You can then either click on it to deposit 1, or right click and select another amount or enter your own (withdraw-x) or all of that item in your bank.

The Interface
Bank Tabs

To help organise your bank account, you can arrange specific items into 'tabs'. At the top of the interface, you will see two main tabs; the first of these is the 'All' tab, and is marked with the 'infinity' symbol (which looks like a sideways 8 or OO). This tab shows everything from every tab in your bank account. To set up a tab, simply drag an item onto the tab marked with a '+'. This will create a new tab that will only show a set of items that you specify and will be marked with the item you first drag onto it. Dragging more items onto the tab will place them into that section of your bank account. Each of these sections will is viewable from your main acount window, or you can click on the tab to view only those items. For instance, if you want to keep your melee combat gear in one location, you might like to keep all of it in a specific tab. You will still be able to find it in your main account (by clicking the 'All' tab), but you can choose specific items to be displayed to make accessing them much quicker. To remove a bank tab, right-click on it and select 'Collapse tab'. A tab will also be removed if you clear it of items.
Other Features
Rearranging Items
There are two ways for you to rearrange your bank account: Swap and Insert. You can select which by clicking this button. If you have selected the 'Swap' option, you can drag and drop items in your bank on top of other items, and the two items will swap positions in your bank. If you have selected the 'Insert' option, dragging an item on top of an existing item will move other items around to accommodate it.
Bank Notes
Any items which don't normally stack in your inventory and that are tradable can be withdrawn in the form of a note, by clicking on this button and then withdrawing it. Click it again to withdraw items in their regular form. If an item cannot be traded, you will not be able to withdraw it as a note. This means that you can hold many items in a single slot; useful for trading large amounts of goods.
Items stored in note form cannot be wielded or equipped, and cannot be used in most skills. They can be sold as notes to any shop that would buy the un-noted item, and they can also have the low and high alchemy spells cast upon them.
Beasts of Burden
If you have a beast of burden familiar (from the Summoning skill), you can move its entire inventory into your bank account by clicking this button.
Searching
You can search for certain items using this button. Simply type in it's name, and any related items will appear. You can then proceed to withdraw them, or move them into a tab.
To turn off search, click on the search button again to be returned to your bank account.
Grand Exchange Collection Box
If you have sold or bought an item on the Grand Exchange, then you can collect it at any bank in RuneScape. (Although you cannot from Bank Chests such as those found at the Duel Arena or Shantay Pass.)
To do this, then either talk to a banker and select 'I'd like to see my Grand Exchange Collection Box” or right click and select collect. Once you do so, this screen will come up.

You can then click on your item or coins, and it will be placed into your inventory.
Remember! You cannot sell items, or remove them from the Grand Exchange if they have not sold yet via a collection box. You must do this from the Grand Exchange.
Deposit Boxes
Some banks contain deposit boxes, which look like this.

They are useful if you wish to save time, say, woodcutting, mining etc. as you can deposit your items without having to enter a PIN (if you have one) or talk to a banker.
Bank PINS
A bank pin is a number that you must enter each time you use your bank account. This is extremely useful as it means if someone manages to gain access to your account, they will not be able to access your bank and then sell your items, or even just drop them.
You are not automatically set with a pin, however, it is highly recommended that you get one.
The Interface, and getting a PIN
Bank PINS can be set from any bank in RuneScape, although they cannot be set from bank chests such as those found in the Duel Arena or Shanty Pass. To get a bank pin, simply talk to the banker and select 'Check your PIN setting'. This will provide you with information on the status of your pin, via this screen.

1.) This tells you whether you have set a Bank PIN, or not.
2.) This tells you how long your current recovery delay is. The recovery delay is how long you need to wait for your PIN to be deleted or changed. This is in place to prevent hackers from simply changing your PIN when they are on your account.
3.) This lets you set a bank PIN.
4.) Clicking this will change your recovery day from 3 to 7 days, and vice versa.
5.) This will confirm any changes that have been made to your bank PIN.
If you select that you want a PIN, you will have to confirm that you will not forget it.
You will then have to enter a PIN of your choice (see below) twice.

Depending on your recovery delay, you will then get your PIN in either 3 or 7 days; you can cancel it any time befor then.
Once you have a PIN set, you will have to enter it each time you log in and want to use a bank.
Bad PIN Examples
Here are some examples of PIN numbers that you should never use.
Your password- If a hacker has gained access to your account, then it means that he or she also knows your password. This will be amongst the first numbers that most hackers try, and such it will be easier for them to access your bank.
A series of numbers- Using a series of numbers, such as 1 2 3 4 is not a good idea, as it is easy to guess and is what most hackers would try when they first try to get into your bank.
Your birthday- If the hacker knows you (which unfortunately, is often the case), then this will be amongst the first numbers that they try.
Your 'favourite number'(s), area code, post code etc- One again, if a hacker knows you then they will often try these.
Good PIN Examples
Here are some better examples that you should try and use.
A random series of numbers- This is good and hard to guess, make your that you remember them though!
The birthday of a famous person- This is also a good choice.
Always try and make it hard to guess but easy to remember!
Organising your Bank
An organised bank is very useful, as it saves you time when you are looking for certain items. To organise your bank, you should make use of bank tabs. Here are some good bank tab ideas
- Weapons and Armour
- Raw Materials
- Tabs dedicated to a certain skill
- Tabs dedicated to a certain combat style
You should also try to group together certain items, like this;

Saving Bank Space
Due to the fact that players have only a limited amount of bank space, you may need to try and save some if you are nearing the limit. Heres some tips.
Holiday Items
Non tradable holiday items do not need to be kept in your bank, as they can be returned for free from either Diango in Draynor Village, Thesilia in Varrock or by Digging in the Lumbridge swamp; depending on the item.
Potions
Having potions of different doses in your bank is a waste of space. Combine them by using them with each other to make them all 4 dose.
Food
Try not to keep raw and cooked food of the same type in your bank; cook it if you can to save space.
Junk
Keeping things such as broken arrows, along with items such as buckets that are easy to obtain is also a bad idea. Just drop them, or sell them to a general store if you wish to make some money back.
Similar Equipment
It is pointless keeping, say, both an Adamant and a Rune Pickaxe in your bank. Sell or drop the lower leveled one depending on it's value to make more space.
Tiaras, Talismans and Staffs
In the Runecrafting skill, you need either a Talisman, Tiara or Runecrafting Staff to enter the mysterious ruins. It is a waste of space keeping, say, a Fire Talisman and a Fire Tiara in your bank; throw the Talisman away to save some space.
Armour
If practical, you should try and wear the equipment in your bank.
